Islington Lib Dem Councillors have given a local boxing club £4,000 of funding.

The Times Amateur Boxing Club based in Kings Cross, was founded over 80 years ago and has worked with thousands of youngsters over that time. The club not only provides boxing facilities for local kids it also runs youth clubs, acting classes, dancing classes and football teams.

The Money for the club will be used for new equipment, football league fees and travel costs. The money has been provided from West area MAGPI funds so that the club can target young people as risk of becoming involved in gangs.

Cllr Terry Stacy, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Community Safety, said:

"The Times ABC has a great record and we're delighted to award this funding.

The Liberal Democrats are serious about giving young people an alternative to crime or anti-social behaviour and I'm sure this money will help the club to make a real difference."

"We also hope that in the future the club will be able to provide services in the south of the borough and we are working with the club on their plans to expand."
