Bridget launches 'One Million Door challenge'9.57.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 14th Sep 2008
Islington South & Finsbury Lib Dem candidate, Bridget Fox, swapped Islington for Bournemouth as she helped launch the party's One Million Door challenge at their conference this week. Party leader Nick Clegg is challenging Lib Dems to knock on one million doors across the country between the end of their conference and June next year. Bridget says, "As the prospective MP for Islington South & Finsbury, I'm passionate about representing my community and finding out what matters to local people. My team and I already enjoy calling on people all year round, listening to their ideas and concerns. "I've heard firsthand from residents about Labour's failures on tax, fuel prices, the environment and crime. And I've worked with them on issues from improving safety at Angel crossing to fighting the Government's insane ID card scheme. "By going out and knocking on doors, we've built campaigns like the one to save our local post offices, when local Labour MP Emily Thornberry was in Westminster voting for the closure programme." Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg says, "For Liberal Democrats calling on people to talk to them isn't just about elections and votes. It is about understanding what matters to residents in our communities". Bridget Fox was selected to help launch Nick Clegg's One Million Door challenge at the party's conference in Bournemouth. In the 2005 General Election, Bridget came just 484 votes behind Labour.
