Labour's 10p Tax Rise Hits Islington Residents

3.23.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 18th Jul 2008

Across our borough, local people are feeling the pinch from Labour's recent tax hit on the least well off. Local campaigner Bridget Fox has met with many residents who have been impacted by Gordon Brown's decision to double the tax on the poorest people in the UK.

Bridget Fox reflects public anger over 10p tax rise.

Bridget said, "This has got to stop. Taking £20 off the weekly income of the elderly and the poor means that some people now have to choose between heating their homes and eating properly. It's unfair, immoral and unjust. Even though Brown was forced to back down, the damage has already been done."

Local social worker Kelly Harding said, "This has hit me very hard - it's severely cut my wages. I can't believe Labour would do this - they just don't look after poor people any more. I'm voting Lib Dem, as voting Tory won't send a message to Labour here."
