Haringey and Islington Lib Dems Show Unity to Fight for Parkland Walk5.40.54pm GMT Mon 5th Feb 2007
Liberal Democrat councillors from Haringey and Islington have shown unity by establishing a regular working group to discuss cross border issues. Members from both boroughs met on 27 th January 2007 to exchange views on shared matters. The group met to discuss a variety of issues including cross border crime, education, traffic problems and Park Land Walk. On 3rd February they walked the entire length of Parkland Walk, which is London's longest nature reserve, which runs through both boroughs starting in Finsbury Park, stretching through Islington and on to Highgate woods in Haringey. Councillor Lyn Weber comments: "This is the ideal opportunity for Lib Dems in Haringey and Islington to talk to one another to ensure cross border issues are tackled with both points of view in mind. Councillor Greg Fox Smith said: "It's a new spirit of co-operation! Parkland walk is just one example of an area that has suffered because it crosses boundaries. We all know it is a valuable resource and councillors from both sides of the border have an interest in fighting to get both boroughs to look after it properly. With some small improvements it could be a valuable gateway for Islington residents to beautiful green space and a really useful cycle route away from traffic."
