Lib Dems get Changes For Islington Buses11.13.37am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th May 2005 Islington Lib Dems demands for improvements to the bus services on the A1 have been successful. London Buses have now revealed proposals to put more buses on the 4 and 271 bus routes making them more reliable and frequent. Under these proposals 271 passengers will benefit from more buses on and off peak during the week and at the weekend, and route 4 will have more buses running on Sundays. Both routes will also have new contracts that will be quality incentive based which it is hoped will improve the quality of service for passengers. Liberal Democrat Councillor Bridget Fox said "The A1 is the back bone of Islington and a vital transport route that is used by thousands of people every day. We have to encourage sustainable transport and making bus routes more frequent and reliable is part of that. "I am glad that TfL have listened to demands from Islington and made improvements that will create a better bus service on the A1. "The change is not as drastic as we hoped for the number 4 which is a busy and crowded route but it is a step in the right direction. We will continue to campaign for more changes to our local transport network."
