Bridget pledges to take fight for Crossrail to Westminster

11.08.11am GMT Tue 2nd Nov 2004

Cllr Bridget Fox this week pledged to take the campaign for Crossrail to reach Islington to Parliament, following a presentation by Crossrail to South Area Committee.

The committee welcomed the proposals, but want to see full integration with the rest of the transport network and adequate funding from the Government to make sure the proposals become a reality. Cllr Bridget Fox said:

"Without full financial backing from central government, it is unlikely that the people of Islington will see the benefits of Crossrail – we need a firm commitment from the Government to support the plans. Crossrail also need to make sure their plans are fully integrated with other local transport by sharing stations with Thameslink – we want evidence that they are looking at the whole picture for local people.

"The Crossrail Bill is due to go through Parliament after the next General Election, and I will be taking Islington's case to Westminster to make sure Islington's residents get the transport deal they need and deserve."
