12.00.00am GMT Tue 20th Jan 2004

Cllr Laura Willoughby, Islingtonís Executive Member for Communities will be leading the Liberal Democrats across London in making London's Olympic bid for 2012 a success. Laura will sit on a special task group set up by the Association of London Government which will lead the Local Government input into the bid. Laura, who attended the launch of the 2012 bid with athletes this morning at the Royal Opera House said:?It is important that Londoners see this as an Olympics for everyone ? the plans are thrilling and I want to ensure that people feel part of that excitement.? Laura is also working to ensure that Islington benefits from the games.

She added: ?Islington will be the ideal venue for the training facilities. These all have to be only 45 minutes from the Olympic village and we certainly are. By having a number of sports training in the borough over the Olympic period we can improve some of our main facilities and provide young people in the borough with an inspiring sports experience.?
