Islington South & Finsbury picks Bridget Fox Islington Liberal Democrats have selected council deputy leader, Bridget Fox as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Islington South and Finsbury. Hundreds of local Liberal Democrats crowded into Islington's Council Chamber last Wednesday (18 Sept), to hear Bridget promise to offer a positive alternative to Labour, campaigning to improve public services, protect the environment, and get a better deal for Islington. Bridget says, "I am delighted to have been chosen to win my home constituency for the Liberal Democrats. People in every ward in Islington South & Finsbury now elect Liberal Democrat councillors. On issues from Barts to the tube, from the environment to crime, Islington residents have been let down by Labour, and trust us to change things for the better." Chair of Islington Liberal Democrats, Dominic Mathon, adds, "Bridget's already a winner in Islington. She will be a brilliant candidate and a brilliant MP. She's the right choice to beat Chris Smith and win Islington South & Finsbury for the Liberal Democrats". Bridget Fox is currently joint Deputy Leader of Islington Council and the Executive Member for Sustainability. A popular and well-known councillor, she has twice been elected for her home ward, Barnsbury, comi ng top of the poll each time. Bridget Fox first came to Islington in the late 80s as a post-graduate student at the then Polytechnic of North London. She moved to live here with husband Paul, also a councillor, a decade ago. Among other interests, Bridget is a local school governor and a member of St Mary's Church in Upper Street.
