Islington's getting greener under the Liberal Democrats12.00.00am GMT Tue 26th Feb 2002 The recent budget decision by the Liberal Democrat controlled Islington Council is also good news for the environmeny with an extra quarter of a million being spendt on making Islington greener and cleaner. Cllr George Allan, chair of the environment and conservation committee, announced an extra £250,000 tackling the problem of abandoned cars. Cllr Allan said: ?I am also delighted that we have an extra £250,000 for dealing with the increased cost of removing abandoned vehicles. We already remove 300 cars a month but we must do more.? ?For the first time in years we have a budget which accurately reflects the needs and the resources available. Under the Liberal Democrats the environment is no longer treated as a political football but as an essential service to make Islington better.?
