Surgery details: Cllrs Kasprzyk or Woolley first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6.30pm at Archway Library, Hamlyn House, Highgate Hill, N19 5PH.
Summer 2008
Councillors Woolley and Kasprzyk on the upgraded Archway Island.
Councillor Stefan Kasprzyk has been working with Council officers for many months on improvements in front of the Archway Tavern and St. Gabriel's Church on Holloway Road.
The new planters on the site of the old public toilets are a big improvement, to complement the refurbishment work that the new owner of the historic Archway Tavern has done with the Island Bar now open.
Your Lib Dem Councillors lobbied for the new flower beds and climbing plants round St. Gabriel's Church to complement the work at St. John's on the other side of the Holloway Road, which, thanks to Cllr. Kasprzyk, has also been supported by the Council.
We are working with local police and council officers to have pavement markings put around Archway cashpoints. Police specialists know they discourage theft of PIN numbers and cash theft from residents using them.
Your Liberal Democrat Councillors are working with Council officers to bid for central government funding to remove the Archway Gyratory system and make the traffic two-way round the St. John's Way side.
We want the middle of Archway to be easier for local pedestrians and cyclists, and better for local business and people who work here during the day as well.
We are continuing to work with the owner of Hill House and Hamlyn House to make sure his plans for refurbishment benefit our area and local people.
Building works for new kitchens and bathrooms on the Girdlestone Estate will start soon.
Residents have welcomed a scheme run jointly by Islington Council and the contractor Mulalley, which offers work and training to local people as part of this.
All residents will be given information about work and training opportunities on the project on the project when they meet the contractor's representative to discuss the building works to their own homes.
Your Lib Dem councillors have made sure there is extra money coming this year to Archway and Tufnell Park for youth work for older children and young people.
We have got more cash for the coming 3 years for Archway and Tufnell Park for targeted activities for young people who need more help.
We'll also be helping young members of Newtown Youth Club on Hargrave Road and Girdlestone Youth Project bid for money from the Council's Youth Opportunities Fund.
There are big plans for Whittington Park. Making the pond and nature area will continue over the summer and autumn.
Residents who live close to the park have been consulted about the new changing rooms and study centre to be built starting in the autumn next to the community centre backing on to Yerbury Road.
Improving the Park: Lib Dem Councillors have got more investment in staffing, greenspace and security for Whittingon.
Your Lib Dem Councillors have also got a new Play Ranger for Whittington Park. Our Play Ranger will be an outdoors play worker based in the park at certain times so that children aged eight and over can play out safely on their own.
We have also worked with the Borough police force to change poilice shift times so they will now be out more at weekends and in the evenings.
The changing rooms and study centre will be built near the community centre, backing on to Yerbury Road and the school playground.
Your local Councillors have also been lobbying Greenspace to get the graffiti on the park buildings removed - again!
Ursula Woolley says, "I know the graffiti on the buildings gets a lot of people down and puts them off enjoying the park. The new buildings will make a big difference in the long run, but in the meantime we all want a park we can feel relaxed in. It's great that we managed to get the first of the new play rangers for Whittington and I'm looking forward to see them in action in the school summer holidays."
If you feel strongly about the park and haven't had your say, please contact us using the details above.
Concerns: Councillors Ursula Woolley and Tracy Ismail outside Tufnell's bar. Your councillors are working with local residents to deal with complaints of late-night noise.
Councillor Ursula Woolley and Councillor Tracy Ismail from neighbouring St. George's Ward have been campaigning with local residents to stop Tufnell's Bar on Tufnell Park Road infringing residents' right to peace and quiet.
Local residents who live nearby have suffered from late-night noise and association anti-social behaviour for too long.
Councillors Woolley and Ismail have been supporting local police in their efforts to gather evidence about the premises and are calling for a review of its licence.
Concillor Woolley says, "Where the Licensing Act gives the Council the powers, we want the strongest possible action taken against premises which don't take the rules seriously and give local residents grief as a result."
Local campaigner Brian Barker has been lobbying councillors about issues around the Palmers Estate area and Tufnell Park Tube.
The Council organised a 'Greener Cleaner' day for the area around Tufnell Park Tube on Friday 27th June. Brian is now pushing the Housing Office to get on with putting in the CCTV Palmers Estate residents have been asking for.
Brian said, "I want this area to be safe and feel safe when I come home in the evening, and I know everyone else who lives here feels the same.
Brian is also lobbying for improvements to roads and pavements. He said, "It was great when the Council listened to us locally and did the road and pavement outside Longley House.
"Now I'm asking them to do the same for other local roads that really need it, like Cathcart Hill for example."
Cleaning Up: Brian Barker outside Tufnell Park Tube, which was the site of a recent Council 'Greener Cleaner' day thanks to his efforts.
