Lights Change: Bridget Fox and local Campaigner Keith Angus at Angel Crossing. The Lib Dems want to see the crossing reviewed by TfL and made safer.
Lib Dem campaigners are stepping up the pressure for a re-design of Angel crossing. The crossing, from the tube to Liverpool Road, is crowded and dangerous.
The wait between crossing times is too long, the pedestrian island is too small, the railings are dangeorus for cyclists, and vehicles are still passing when the green man comes on.
Back in 2004, Bridget Fox and the local Lib Dems launched a campaign for the crossing to be reviewed. Thousands of people signed their petition asking the Mayor of London and TfL to act. The Council supported the demands for a safer crossing. Now campaigners hope the new Mayor will listen.
One option is to move the crossing to the north side of the Liverpool Road junction. That would allow people to cross safely while traffic heads south from Liverpool Road.
Cllr. James Kempton says, "We've been listening to what local people want, and have worked long and hard to get progress from TfL."
Bridget says, "Angel crossing is a nightmare. Islington residents have waited long enough. It's time for the Mayor to act."
A Better Park: Local Lib Dems Thea Scot and Keith Angus are asking residents to take part in the Barnard Park consultation.
Local Lib Dems have welcomed news that Barnard Park is to be redeveloped. This will follow the ongoing consultation process, which will determine the future design of the park.
Local campaigner Keith Angus said, "Everyone in the Focus Team welcomes the consultation, and we strongly urge local residents to get involved."

Islington Council has secured new funding for young people in Barnsbury, where it is much needed.
Keith Angus campaigned for £50,000 for extra targeted youth work for young people locally, and was delighted when the council's executive voted this through. Keith said, "These extra funds will really help the young people in our area. Too often, insufficient attention is given to making sure young people have positive activities in their free time, and this money will help towards that."

The Post Office have confirmed that the latest victim of the closure plans, backed by Gordon Brown's unpopular Labour government, will be the Post Offices at 100 and 492 Caledonian Road.
Post Office bosses ignored objections from Islington's Lib Dem Council and a 1000+ signature petition from local people.
Meanwhile controversial local MP Emily Thornberry dismissed the sub-post offices as "just a counter in a shop." In March this year, she failed to vote with Lib Dem MPs to block the closure programme.
Mackenzie Road resident Pat Croci says, "This is very bad news for our area. I don't know what the pensioners will do without their local post office."
Campaigner Bridget Fox adds, "Post offices are a vital part of our community. It's crazy to close them. People round here have been let down by Labour."
