Islington's Liberal Democrat leader has challenged council bosses to show their support for the England football team by flying the St.George's flag over the Town Hall during the World Cup competition.
In a letter to the Council's Chief Executive and Council Leader, councillor Terry Stacy asks the council to follow the Government's decision to fly the flag above 10 Downing Street.
Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition, councillor Terry Stacy, said:
"We should all be proud to support the England team during the World Cup and show our support. That's why I want to see the England flag flying high over Islington Town Hall.
"If it's good enough for 10 Downing Street, it should be good enough for our Town Hall. With the competition about to start, now's the ideal time to back our boys.
"I really hope the council agrees to my idea. We did it before when the Liberal Democrats were running the Council so let's do it again now. Let's get behind our national team and let the Town Hall join with all the other England flags flying across the borough."
