Islington Liberal Democrat councillors have this week demanded action to publish senior council officer salaries.
Liberal Democrat councillors agreed in March that the salary details for all council officers earning more than £75,000 should be made public. The information on staff with salaries over £100,000 has already been published on the council's website but the details for staff earning between £75k and £100k is still outstanding.
Islington's Liberal Democrat leader of the Opposition has now written to the Council's Chief Executive urging an end to the stalling and demanding that the salaries are published immediately.
Liberal Democrat group leader, councillor Terry Stacy, said:
"Islington residents rightly expect their local council to be upfront about what it pays its senior staff.
"That's why when Liberal Democrats were in power, we brought in new rules so that senior officers on more than £75,000 had their salary details made public.
"While information about the highest-paid officers earning more than £100,000 is now in the public domain, there is still a wall of silence around the rest.
"It's time to stop the stalling. Labour councillors seem to be in no hurry to get this information preferring instead to waste time and local taxpayers' money on a new 'Fairness Commission'. Liberal Democrats want this information is made available immediately."
