Islington Lib Dem council candidates for 2010
Islington Liberal Democrats have launched their programme for the next four years with a set of four pledges to local residents.
The document sets out four key pledges to make Islington safer, fairer and greener that residents can judge the Liberal Democrats against at the next election in 2014. These are:
• cut crime and anti-social behaviour with more visible late-night policing, a crack down on badly-managed bars, clubs and off licences and tougher action against irresponsible dog owners.
• make Islington even greener with a network of local energy generation schemes across Islington to create jobs, reduce emissions and lower heating bills
• give our young people the best start in life with improving school exam results, new school buildings, extra housing points and more apprenticeships
• fair taxes by keeping Islington's council tax among the lowest in London.
Liberal Democrat leader of Islington Council, Terry Stacy, said:
"Four years ago, Liberal Democrats made seven pledges to residents and we have kept every one of them. Now we are making four new pledges for the next four years.
"Islington is a special place. This manifesto sets out how we will preserve our borough's unique character and make it an even safer, fairer, greener place to live, grow up and work.
"Liberal Democrats have turned Islington round from the basket case it was under Labour. Our new manifesto shows we have the energy, ideas and diverse team to keep on making Islington a borough that people are proud to call home."
