Lib Dem GLA transport spokesperson Caroline Pidgeon presenting the petition with Islington councillors Tracy Ismail and Ursula Woolley
Liberal Democrat campaigners from Archway and Tufnell Park have taken a petition to Boris Johnson at City Hall, demanding that he takes action to improve the number 4 bus service.
The number 4 goes from Tufnell Park to Waterloo, via the Nag's Head, Highbury Barn, Angel, and the Barbican. It is one of Islington's most important bus routes, but suffers from being an unreliable and sporadic service.
Islington council leader Terry Stacy took this issue up with Boris Johnson earlier this year- but received a complacent reply from the Mayor.
Now Liberal Democrat councillors Tracy Ismail and Ursula Woolley have collected a petition from Number 4 users and local residents, which they took to City Hall to present to the Mayor.
Councillor Tracy Ismail said:
"The Number 4 is hopelessly unreliable. The Mayor's response to our letters has been totally inadequate, so hopefully this petition will prove that the experiences of bus users doesn't square with the rosy picture in the timetables."
Councillor Ursula Woolley added:
"If we want people to use public transport, it's vital that the buses are reliable and regular. TfL need to improve our local service. At the least we need countdown timers, so we know how long we're going stand waiting!"
