Vince Cable backs the Islington team
Vince Cable has welcomed the selection of Cllr Rhodri Jamieson Ball as Liberal Democrat PPC in Islington North.
Rhodri, a long-standing community campaigner, has been a Councillor in Mildmay since 2006. A keen environmentalist who cycles everywhere, Rhodri has been at the forefront of campaigns to increase the number of police on Islington's streets, cut carbon emissions, curb air pollution and build affordable homes for local people.
Rhodri said:
"I got involved in politics to make a difference for my community. I'm proud of the way I've worked with people in Mildmay to get new social housing, a cleaner greener environment and better youth facilities. Now I want to work with people across Islington North who feel let down by Labour and know that the Tories are not the answer here."
Dr Cable said:
"Labour have let so many people down. Across Islington, it is the Liberal Democrats who offer a positive alternative to Labour."
Rhodri, who was selected by party members last month, joins Bridget Fox who has been the candidate in Islington South & Finsbury since 2002. At the last General Election, she came within 500 votes of beating Labour.
