Liberal Democrats: fighting Post Office closures
Bridget Fox, Liberal Democrat campaigner and PPC for Islington South & Finsbury, has condemned the failure of the Labour government to invest properly in the Royal Mail.
Bridget spoke out as postal workers went on strike across Britain.
Since Labour came to power, 4,000 post offices have been closed nationally, including 13 in Islington, with the Goswell Road branch the latest to close. Now Labour's plans for the Royal Mail have attracted widespread condemnation.
Bridget Fox said "Labour's post office closures - backed by Emily Thornberry MP - have already hit Islington hard.
"Now Lord Mandelson's privatisation plan is causing more uncertainty for Royal Mail and more disruption to our postal service. And every time it's ordinary people who lose out. We cannot have the Royal Mail at risk to asset strippers only interested in its pension fund and premises."
Bridget adds, "Liberal Democrats want to see a fresh start that will secure the future of the Royal Mail, with new investment in our post offices and shared ownership of the company by its staff."
