Islington's Liberal Democrat-run Council is launching a free Credit Crunch Helpline for local people struggling in the recession.
The Freephone number provides advice on what benefits and tax credits local people may be eligible for and help them claim the benefits. The helpline can also advise local residents how they can get help with personal finances, debt, housing costs and finding a job.
The freephone Credit Crunch Helpline number is 0800 731 8081, open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Local residents can also get help via email at: claimit@islington.gov.uk and more information on how local people can get help and advice is also available on the council's website at: www.islington.gov.uk/biteback
Councillor Lucy Watt, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader of Islington Council, commented:
"This new helpline is just the latest weapon in the Liberal Democrat council's package of help for local residents during the recession.
"We have already announced a raft of measures which residents and businesses have flocked to use. On top of the advice centres and benefit take-up teams we are already funding, this new helpline will help people claim tax credits and tell them where they can get the support they need to get back into work."
