Bumper crop of new trees planted in Islington

May 7, 2009 3:56 PM
New Trees have been planted across the borough

More than 750 new trees have been planted this season.

More than 750 new trees have been planted in Islington's streets, parks, and housing estates in the last year. As the planting season closed, the number of street trees in the borough has risen for the eighth year running - making sure that Islington's reputation as a green borough continues to grow.

New cherries, ash, birches, cedar, and beech are now putting down roots all over Islington.

Councillor Ruth Polling, Islington's councillor responsible for trees, said:

"We love our trees in Islington, and according to figures from the GLA we have more street trees per mile than any other London borough. It's been a busy planting season for the council, with over 750 new trees keeping Islington leafy for years to come."
