Accidents continue to occur at the junction of Pentonville Road and Penton Rise near Kings Cross, because Transport for London and Boris Johnson have failed to act to make the junction safer for pedestrians and cyclists - despite promising that work would begin in January. Liberal Democrat campaigners have told Boris that they won't accept any more excuses, and that works must start immediately.
After campaigning by local Liberal Democrat councillors and the Liberal Democrat London transport spokesperson Caroline Pidgeon, Transport for London agreed that the junction is dangerous and promised that works would be carried out at the beginning of 2009.
Five months later, nothing has been done.
Local Clerkenwell councillor Marisha Ray said:
"This junction is dangerous and needs to be sorted now. This must not be put off any longer.
"I took TfL officials to see the junction, and while we talked we actually saw a cyclist being knocked off his bike by a car turning left. I can't even look at this junction now without being terrified for any cyclist or pedestrian trying to navigate it.
"We don't want to hear any more excuses from Boris."
