Bridget Fox: supporting local postal services
Liberal Democrat campaigner Bridget Fox has welcomed the launch of the 'Post Bank' campaign. The 'Post Bank' is the brainchild of a new coalition, calling for a new bank to be set up and run as part of the Post Office network.
Liberal Democrats back the Post Bank idea, and would also like to see post offices acting as mini parcel depots for Royal Mail & private firms, and as a 'one stop shop' for public services. The party opposes Labour plans for privatisation, arguing that a majority of Royal Mail shares must stay in the hands of the Government and postal workers.
Bridget Fox commented, "The Post Bank is a brilliant idea. It's a chance to give safe, reliable banking services to local residents and businesses. And it would help support our post office branches too. I've fought hard to save local post offices like Essex Road. Now we need to use them.
"Labour should abandon their unpopular privatisation plans. The Post Office and Royal Mail do need investment, but Labour's half-baked plans would not secure a sustainable future for either organisation. The Post Bank idea is a much better way to protect the future of our post offices."
