Local Liberal Democrat councillor Tracy Ismail backs the St.George's dispersal order.
Liberal Democrats on Islington Council have agreed to bring in a new dispersal zone to stop drug dealing and burglaries on housing estates.
The St.George's dispersal zone will start on 9th February and run for six months. The aim of the dispersal zone is to stop the supply of drugs in the area and arrest key dealers before the school half-term holidays start.
The Police will now be concentrating its resources in the dispersal zone to crack down on the ongoing and open drug dealing in the area.
Local Liberal Democrat councillor for St.George's ward, Tracy Ismail, said:
"Residents on the Tufnell Park Estate, Daren Court and Margery Fry Court will hopefully see an end to the misery that the drug dealers have been causing them and the dealing which has been taking place right under their noses will go away. Nobody should have to put up with this kind of behaviour day in, day out. I'm pleased that the Police and the Council have listened to residents' concerns and acted on them."
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Community Safety, Terry Stacy, added:
"Residents have complained to the Council and Police about groups crossing from Camden and dealing drugs outside their homes. We've listened to their fears and agreed with the Police that a temporary dispersal zones is the best solution for the area. Hopefully this measure will stop people's lives locally being made a misery and make them feel safer."
