Government standards watchdog the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) have once again given Islington Council the maximum '3 Star' rating for its social services. Islington Council's Liberal Democrat leadership have welcomed the CSCI report.
It's the second year Islington has won praise from social care's national watchdog and been awarded the highest grade for its services to adults. Only thirteen London boroughs won top marks.
Islington's Adult Care Services include supported accommodation for disabled people, day centres offering lunch and group activities, residential homes, homecare, and dementia care. The CSCI inspectors were particularly impressed that more people in Islington are helped to live independently at home, rather than in residential care.
The inspectors also praised Islington Council's leadership.
Councillor John Gilbert, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Services said:
"We are transforming adult social care in Islington and Three Stars means our services are efficient, well run and delivering for local people.
"CSCI agree that we're getting it right. With an ageing population in the current economic climate, that's good news for service users, carers, staff, and council tax payers.
"It's the second year running that we've received the maximum mark. Next year we will be trialling new ways of delivering care that will shift the focus to a more liberal basis, giving users more control of what services they receive, from whom, and when."
