Local Mildmay Ward councillor Anna Berent visiting the site where the new council housing is being built.
The ten new low rise family-sized homes, on the corner of Boleyn Road and Mildmay Road in Mildmay ward, will be completed in 2009. The new buildings are designed to a high environmental specification with eco-friendly and energy saving features.
James said:
"There are thousands of overcrowded families in this borough, and this is something the Liberal Democrats are tackling by building the first new council homes in a generation.
"In the current difficult economic climate, house-building by private companies and social landlords is halting. So I'm proud that thanks to our sound management of Islington's finances, the council is able to step in to build new affordable housing for families."
