Local councillors Andrew Cornwell, Ursula Woolley, and Tracy Ismail at the Tufnells nightclub
A long-running battle between residents of Tufnell Park Road and the Tufnell's nightclub has come to a conclusion this week as Islington council's licensing committee voted to revoke the license - and shut the club down. The local Lib Dem councillors, who have been campaigning on behalf of local residents to close the club, went to the meeting to argue for its closure, and have welcomed the decision.
The committee voted to revoke the license after a string of complaints from local residents and council officials. The management of the nightclub was found guilty of a catalogue of incompetence:
Local Liberal Democrat councillor Ursula Woolley said:
"You can't have a nightclub in the middle of a residential area unless its very, very well-run. Tufnells was conspicuously badly run and nearby residents have been plagued by problems. Its closure was long overdue, although many people would like to see it as a thriving local pub again.
"License holders need to know that Islington council isn't going to put up with any nonsense - and if you break the rules, we will shut you down."
