1.7 tonnes of items found new homes at a 'Give-and-take' day at Caxton House. This free event organised by Islington Council's recycling team let local people bring along their unwanted stuff to save it going to landfill - and to take away things brought along by others. Local Liberal Democrat councillor Julia Williams, decluttering, took along some kitchenware.

Five bicycles, a TV, two computers, and an oak dining table were among the items given and taken away. Over 150 people went along to the event at Caxton House.

Councillor Julia Williams said:

"We throw away lots of things that other people might want and could go to a good home. This was a fantastic, busy event - where else could you pick up a free bike or TV? I spoke to a couple who had just moved into the Elthorne Estate who picked up some furniture for their new home.

"The ward councillors in Hillrise are totally behind these Give and Take days - what a great way to recycle!"
