Local police stations are under threat
Liberal Democrat campaigner Meral Ece is urging Islington residents to speak up and respond to the Metropolitan Police Authority's consultation on the future of police stations in our area.
These controversial proposals could see the closure of Holloway and Highbury Vale police stations.
Meral says, "The Metropolitan Police Authority published its proposals back in November, but many local people have heard nothing about the possible closure of our police stations. It's the local community who will be living with these changes; Islington must be heard."
Meral criticised Labour GLA member Jenette Arnold, who represents London North East and sits on the Metropolitan Police Authority.
"Jenette Arnold has endorsed these proposals, but local people know nothing about them. Residents tell me they feel angry and let down that their GLA member is so silent."
And Meral adds "Crime is the top concern in this area. As the local GLA member I would not vote for any proposal that reduces access to the police in Islington."
Residents have until 13 March to get their comments in. Copies of the proposals are available on the Metropolitan Police Authority website at http://www.mpa.gov.uk/issues/estate/default.htm#amp.
