Liberal Democrat executive member Ruth Polling was joined by the Council's park rangers and local residents as she formally cut the ribbon at a new and improved community garden at Granville Square in Clerkenwell.
The gardens have new lawns and shrubberies, new play equipment for children, and a newly-resurfaced ball court.
Councillor Ruth Polling said:
"The Liberal Democrats are committed to improving the parks and green spaces all over our borough. Many people in London live in flats, so these are people's gardens. Since 2005 we've added over 10,000 square metres of new green space to Islington, but we've also concentrated on bringing existing parks and squares up to the high standard that residents deserve.
"We want to provide high-quality open spaces, but to get this right we know we have to listen to what residents want. We worked closely with local people when we designed the new gardens, and all the community came together to make this a success."
Ruth added:
"One of the interesting things is that the new grasses and shrubs have been chosen to be resilient to changes in our climate. With climate change high on our agenda, we're always thinking about how we need to adapt to the possible changes in our future."
