Cllr Anna Berent celebrates her award, with Bridget Fox and Emma Gowers
Islington Liberal Democrats are celebrating after Mildmay councillor Anna Berent was named Backbencher of the Year by the Local Government Association Liberal Democrat Group.
The LGA, which represents thousands of councils and councillors nationwide, announced the award at the party's conference in Harrogate.
Anna was nominated for her championing of environmental issues, and specifically for her achievement in arranging for over 300 Islington students to see Al Gore's film, 'An Inconvenient Truth' at the Screen on the Green for free.
Islington South & Finsbury parliamentary candidate Bridget Fox congratulated Anna: "The environment is at the top of Liberal Democrats' priorities, and Anna's passion for green issues has made a real difference. It's great that her dedication has been recognised by this award."
Chair of Islington Liberal Democrats, Emma Gowers, added, "The LGA represents councillors from all over the country, and this award is a great honour. We are all very proud of Anna."
