Liberal Democrat campaigner Bridget Fox has reacted angrily to news that Islington's Post Offices are once again under threat - breaking promises made by local Labour politicians.
Earlier this year, Bridget launched a campaign to save Essex Road Post Office which is widely rumoured to be under threat. Islington Labour politicians dismissed the charge, saying that there was no threat to the branch from Government plans.
But now a hitlist drawn up in August this year has been released following pressure from Liberal Democrat MPs and shows that Islington's Post Offices will be reviewed for further closures next April.
Bridget Fox says "This is yet another betrayal of local residents by the Labour government whose MPs have taken Islington for granted for far too long.
"Government MPs have known for months that closures in Islington were on the cards, but have done nothing to fight this. Instead Emily Thornberry MP voted for the post office closure programme.
"Liberal Democrats led the campaign against previous Post Office closures and I will fight to protect those we have left.
"The Government could help by making more of its services - from benefit payments to TV licenses - available at the Post Office for those who want that. Instead they are backing the closure programme."
