The Liberal Democrats have launched a major national campaign to save the NHS from Labour's waste, cuts and incompetence. The campaign calls for:
an end to NHS cuts,
for the Government to stop wasting billions of pounds of health spending on bureaucracy instead of frontline care and for local people to have more say over local health services.
As part of the launch, Liberal Democrat leader Ming Campbell and Islington South & Finsbury candidate Bridget Fox visited the Elizabeth Avenue Group Practice, N1.
Ming Campbell said, "I know from my own experience just how important the NHS is, and how hard nurses, doctors and other staff work. But by trying to control every detail of what goes on in the NHS the Labour Government has wasted money and caused a massive wave of cuts."
Bridget Fox said, "Islington residents care passionately about our local health services. Instead of wasting £12.4billion on botched IT projects, the Government must let the NHS get on with the job of providing top quality care.
"At its best, the NHS is something we can all be proud of. But despite Government investment I hear from local patients waiting for treatment, and health workers frustrated by targets and red tape. Liberal Democrats want a first class service for everyone."
The Liberal Democrats have launched a website - www.nhssos.com - and are inviting Islington residents to share their views and experiences.
