Local Lib Dem Councillor and leading legal aid lawyer Greg Foxsmith of Shearman Bowen was one of the organisers of a 1000+ demo outside parliament protesting against the Governments cutbacks in legal aid yesterday.
The rally heard from speakers including MPs Simon Hughes, Frank Dobson and Diane Abbot.
Councillor Greg Foxsmith said "These government cuts will deny access to justice to a majority, leaving legal rights as the preserve of the rich. It is the poorest members of our community who most need justice but will be denied it if they can't receive aid.
"I want our local MPs to back us and opposing these cuts, an early day motion by Keith Vaz MP urging the government to rethink its strategy has received much support, and I have called on Emily Thornberry MP to join her Islington colleague Jeremy Corbyn in signing, something she has so far refused to do. As former human rights Lawyer I know Emily will understand the value of legal aid to the poorest in our communities."
