The Labour Mayor, Ken Livingstone, is adding more to Islington residents' Council Tax bills this year than the Lib Dem run council.
Residents in band D properties will be paying £28.40 extra Council Tax this year with Ken adding £15.30 to a band D property in comparison to £13.10 by the council.
Since 2000 Ken Livingstone has increased the amount he receives from Londoners from £123 to £304. This year's inflation busting 5.3% rise even exceeds the Government's 5% cap on council tax rises.
Lib Dems have questioned whether the Labour Mayor is offering residents value for money and have proposed over £3 million cuts to the Mayor's advertising and events budget as part of a bid to keep Mayoral spending down.
Councillor Andrew Cornwell, Executive Member for Finance said:
"The Labour Mayor simply doesn't have a handle on finances.
"There is no justification for these massive increases and he should be forced by the government to make backroom savings, in the same way councils are expected to.
"Londoners simply aren't getting value for money from Ken. It's time he was held to account for his reckless financial management."
