Lib Dem Anna promotes green message
Local campaigner Lib Dem Anna Berent has arranged a private viewing "Of An Inconvenient Truth" for Islington School Children. On 16th and 17th of January over 300 Islington students will be going to the Screen on the Green to see the film for free.
Anna, who arranged the screening and secured the funding herself said
"I saw this film in September and I knew I wanted as many children to see it as possible. Climate Change will affect young people most so it's important they understand it and take it seriously. This film gets the message across in an accessible way.
"When I set up the screening I invited schools to send any children they thought were old enough to sit through it. I'm chuffed with the response. It's something I really wanted to happen so seeing it come together is amazing."
The Islington Strategic Partnership have helped fund the private screening which will be free to the schools involved. St Aloyisius, Central foundation, Mount Carmel, Holloway School, IAMs and Highbury Grove are all sending pupils to the film.
An Inconvenient Truth is a film based on a passionate and inspirational presentation by former Vice President Al Gore (who describes himself as 'the ex future president of the United States' ) of the present state of global warming and the dire outlook if our inaction fails to slow it down.' Mainline pictures, who own the Screen on the Green, and the film's distributors, UIP, have both given Anna a discounted rate to help her offer it to schools for free.
