In the year since the introduction of the Safer Neighbourhood Team in Junction, crime figures have plummeted.
Overall crime has dropped by 18.7%. The new team have had particular success in dealing with Criminal Damage down 27.3%, Burglary down 18.7% and Assault down 15.3%.
Lib Dems paid for the early introduction of Safer Neighbourhood teams in seven areas of Islington in 2006 and have since created a dedicated team for the Nags Head area to crack down on crime.
Junction Councillor Ursula Woolley said:
"There is no doubt that our local police team are worth their weight in gold. They have made Archway safer, and been a visible presence on our streets and in local meetings making a real contribution.
"I'm glad we didn't have to wait another year before they were put in place."
Council leader James Kempton said:
"Islington residents tell us that cutting crime and antisocial behaviour is their number one priority. That's why we have funded Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Islington. As a result every part of the Borough has extra Police on the streets. We are also increasing the number of CCTV cameras too.
"It's great to see that the Junction team is achieving such positive results."
