Local Councillor Stefan Kasprzky infront of the Archway Tower area that will be redeveloped
After a full year of consultations the redevelopment at Archway got one stage closer last night when Islington Lib Dems voted for the complete rebuild of the Archway site.
65% of residents who responded to the consultation opted for a rebuild rather than a refurbish option. At the Committee Lib Dems supported this view after challenging council officers on the rumours that had been circulating about the development.
Junction Councillor Ursula Woolley said
"We made a positive decision last night. We want to see improvements at Archway, more investment, better leisure facilities, more green space and a really sustainable development. Rebuilding the area in phases is the best way to achieve all this.
"Residents had been right to be concerned after the rumours that had been circulating about the development. There is lots of misinformation around the development. But we have challenged that and it won't take 5 years to start and we won't need to close the station.
"Our decision reflected the views of the majority of residents who want to see a real change in the area. It was a positive meeting and I'll be doing everything in my power to ensure that any building works for this vital development cause the minimum disruption for those who live locally. "
