Lib Dems delivered their first election pledge this summer by providing free swimming lessons to school children.
The Lib Dem Council funded a Learn-to-Swim program this summer with nearly 500 Islington School children taking part. All the Children were taught to swim 25 meters and the successful scheme will be repeated next year.
The initiative is part of the Lib Dems on going commitment to extending sport and leisure opportunities in Islington and helping keep Children fit and active.
Lib Dem Councillor George Allan said:
"Our election promises are important - and where we can we deliver them as soon as possible. It's our way of putting our money where our mouth is.
"Learning to swim is an important skill, it stays with you for life, and it's an enjoyable way of keeping fit and active. Islington is a great place to go swimming for people of all ages and who knows, some of the small children learning to swim 25 meters this summer could be our Olympic champions of the future."
Lessons were available at Ironmonger Row Baths, Cally Pool and Archway Leisure Centre. This was all part of the Council's biggest ever Summer of Sport with £120,000 being spent on health and sports activities for children in the summer holidays.
