Lib Dems have revealed that they do not intend to accept Ken Livingstone's latest diktat on Housing targets.
Ken Livingstone has decreed that 11,600 new homes will be built in Islington in the next ten years.
Islington is the smallest borough in the UK and the 2nd most densely populated borough in London. Lib Dems believe that this hasn't been taken into account in the creation of the housing targets.
Lib Dems have expressed their view to Ken that his planned massive increase in the population in Islington will damage the nature of the borough, strain resources and put green spaces under threat.
Council Leader James Kempton said "Rightly Islington is a hugely popular borough - loads of people want to live here. Put Providing more housing can't destroy the special character that draws people here and makes so many of us want to stay.
"Islington will be getting more homes but planning committee of local councillors are the ones who should decide what is right for Islington not the distant London Mayor.
"Neither I nor any of my colleagues has any intention of creating 21st Century slums by squeezing in as many homes as possible into one space."
