As a result of lobbying by Highbury East Liberal Democrat Councillors Terry Stacy, Laura Willoughby and John Gilbert, the Council is to blitz over hanging tress which block out a number of key park lights across Highbury Fields. This will help address safety concerns raised by the Highbury East Safer Neighbourhoods Team and local residents. Trees on Queens Walk and Church Path are to be cut back over the next two weeks.
The Council has also installed additional flood lighting at a key hot sport at the rear of the football pitches linking Church Path and Framfield Road. The trees at this location will also be cut back to make sure the new lighting is effective.
Highbury East Councillor Terry Stacy said "Overhanging tress had become a problem. Trees had started to block out light, so we've insisted action be taken. We're very pleased the Council are now cutting these trees back, as this should improve the area and make it much safer for local people."
Sargent Colin Francis of the Highbury East Safer Neighbourhood Team said "Residents highlighted lighting on Highbury Fields as a concern in our recent survey of the area. I am delighted that the Council are taking action on this"
