Cllr Terry Stacy has expressed deep concern after a journalist was able to sneak a fake bomb onto a train carrying nuclear waste through Islington last week.
The Daily Mirror reported on Friday (21st July) that one of their reporters had sneaked into the train depot in North London and was photographed placing a device on one of the trains. Trains carrying nuclear waste regularly run through Islington, particularly in Mildmay ward.
Cllr Terry Stacy, who got a motion passed at June's council meeting calling on the Government to restrict the use of these trains in urban areas, said:
"I'm shocked by these pictures. They confirm all our fears about the transportation of nuclear waste: they could easily be targeted by terrorists. I hope the Government takes notice of this high profile embarrassing incident and tightens up the security of the trains as a matter of urgency."
