Lib Dems have secured more tenant representation on the board of HFI.
Government legislation strictly restricted the number of tenants who were allowed to sit on Homes for Islington's board to 7 tenant representatives. The Lib Dem council has now convinced the government to change the rules to allow another tenant onto the HFI board.
Councillor Terry Stacy Executive Member for Housing and Communities said
"Tenant involvement and empowerment is central to the Lib Dems agenda. We've always wanted tenants to have as much control over their own homes as possible. That''s why we ensured that their was the maximum number of tenants places on the board when Homes For Islington was set up. With this addition there will now be 9 tenant and leaseholder representatives on the board.
So I am delighted that we have been able to persuade the government to allow us to appoint more tenant members to the board."
The Homes for Islington Board consists of seven tenant and leaseholder representatives, five council representatives and five independent members. In the past only one of the council representatives could be a leaseholder and only one a council tenant.
