Islington's Liberal Democrat councillors have registered their
opposition to police proposals to close Holloway police station at night. At present both Islington & Holloway police stations are open 24 hours a day. But the police are now proposing to close Holloway police station at night - as the result of a 'costs-benefit analysis' of services at Holloway.
Lib Dem Cllr Marisha Ray has written to the police objecting to these proposals on behalf of the Council.
Marisha says
"Fighting crime and the fear of crime is a priority for us. Sadly, crime can happen 24 hours a day. Residents want to know there is a police station available if needed - especially when many people have found it so hard to get through on the phone.
"We believe that the presence of a staffed police station overnight is essential and therefore will be opposing any proposal to end this at Holloway, or Islington, police station."
Notes to Editors
1. The police proposal is to close Holloway Police Station from 10.30pm - 6.30am.
2. The consultation, carried out by Chief Inspector John Frost, ended on Friday 30th June.
