Islington's Lib Dem Mayor raised the St George's Cross over Islington Town Hall this week to symbolise Islington's support for the England team in the World Cup.
The St George's Cross can be seen right across the borough as World Cup fever builds.
The flag is now flying above the town hall and on the Mayoral car
Lib Dem Mayor Jyoti Vaja said
"I'm really excited about the world cup and we want to show that we're supporting our boys out there in Germany. Football is a national sport, it's really important in Islington and everyone wants to be part of that.
"The St George's cross is a symbol of England. In recent years it has been downgraded and used as a symbol of the BNP and extremist groups. We shouldn't be ashamed of our heritage or allow it to be taken over by racists.
"Many people like me have come from other parts of the world to live in Islington and I am exceedingly proud to show my support for the England team by having the St George's Cross flying on my car."
