Islington Council has won the coveted 'London Transport Borough of the Year' Award in the Centre for Transport Policy's 2006 London Transport Awards. The award was given to Islington for it's work improving accessibility for disadvantaged groups and for forging a number of successful partnerships which have delivered better transport services in the area.
Islington also won two other awards at the ceremony, for Walking and the Public Realm, and Business Contribution to Sustainable Transport.
Cllr Bridget Fox, Executive member for Sustainability (including transport), says: "We're delighted - this is a welcome recognition of the hard work we've been doing to improve transport in the borough. Having the A1 running through its heart and being right next to the Congestion Charge zone, Islington has unique transport challenges; we are determined to make getting around our borough safer, easier and greener too."
