Islington's Liberal Democrat Group won three awards at Liberal Democrat Spring Conference last week, presented by the new party leader, Sir Menzies Campbell.
The group won a special award for "Outstanding Services to Local Government", and best practice awards for "Improving Local Transport" and "Tackling Anti Social Behaviour" in the Liberal Democrat Council Group of the Year Awards, run by the Liberal Democrat Group at the Local Government Association. The awards take place each year and are judged from entries from Liberal Democrat council groups across the country.
Group Leader Cllr Steve Hitchins says: "We're very proud to have won these awards in a very tough field. They reflect the hard work the Lib Dems in Islington have done to make a real difference to key issues like anti social behaviour and transport in Islington. The Outstanding Services Award was a pleasant surprise, recognising the groups work over many years to transform Islington into the fastest improving borough in the country."
Islington Council was also a runner up in the Local Government Chronicle Award this week in the 'Most Improved Council' category.
