Islington Liberal Democrats will tonight put £2 million into services for children. This money - on top of the extra investment in schools - will mainly support vulnerable children.
It includes:
> £400,000 to recruit more social workers for children, and retain those already working for the Council
> £150,000 to recruit and retain more foster carers to look after young people
> More than £1 million into the Safeguarding Children initiative, for ongoing implementation of the recommendations of Laming report
Cllr James Kempton said "We have always made investing in our children our overwhelming priority - and we're continuing to do so this year.
"This is a very substantial investment in ensuring that some of our most vulnerable children are protected, coming on top of the huge amounts of extra money we are also putting into our children's education."
