Islington's Lib Dem Council is continuing to prioritise the vulnerable by investing an extra £1.6 million into Adult Social Services this year.
The money includes:
> £525,000 more for people with Learning Difficulties
> £35,000 more for the council's successful older people's strategy, 'Live Long and Prosper'
> £800,000 extra for residential care placements, to replace a grant cut by the Labour Government
> £150,000 for mainstreaming the Islington Refugee Service
> £200,000 for preventative measures to help older people
Cllr Meral Ece, Executive Member for Adult Social Services, says: "Despite funding pressures caused by the cutting of Government grants, combined with the rising costs associated with an ageing population, we are determined to continue making vulnerable people our priority. This investment will help secure more improvements to the people who need our support most."
