Islington's residents love their trees, so the Lib Dem Council is this year continuing their investment into trees in the borough by committing an extra £36,000 to protecting them.
The money will be used to expand the Landscape Tree Team, who do valuable work protecting and preserving trees, providing advice on trees and making tree preservation orders.
This is in addition to the extra £160,000 committed to planting new trees in last years budget, and West Area Committee's recent contribution of £20,000? on planting mature replacement trees for those that have to be felled.
Cllr Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability says:
"We love our trees in Islington and the Lib Dem Council has planted thousands of new trees in the last few years. We want to ensure trees old and new are maintained and protected and don't damage their surrounding environment, which is why the work of the Tree Team is so important."
Cllr Emma Gowers, Lib Dem Chair of West Area Committee, says:
"It's sad when old trees have to be removed, which is why we Lib Dem councillors on West Area Committee recently committed money for replacing them with mature trees. Expanding the tree team is a really good move to help protect old trees and make sure they are only removed in appropriate circumstances."
