Investing in Better Streets for Islington

February 9, 2006 12:00 AM

Islington's Lib Dem Council are investing an extra £800,000 in improving streets and waste services in this year's budget.

The money will be used to implement the recommendations from the Best Value Reviews into Waste Management and People Friendly Streets, and will include additional investment into:

> Maintaining streets, pavements and street furniture

> Festive lights for Christmas

> Additional street cleaning

> More refuse collections on housing estates

> Extra night refuse collections

> Action on anti-social behaviour

Islington Liberal Democrats Bridget Fox and Anna Berent

Bridget and Anna welcome the Lib Dem investment in Islington's environment

Cllr Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability, says:

"Clean streets and good refuse services have a huge impact on the quality of life for local people in Islington. The Liberal Democrats are committed to continue making Islington a cleaner, greener borough to live in, and this investment will build on our success so far."

Cllr Anna Berent (Mildmay Ward) says:

"Walking down the streets in Mildmay, you can really see what a difference the Lib Dems have made since we took control of the council. The ongoing investment in lighting, new street sweeping machines, and better refuse collection has made Islington a pleasanter place to live for everyone."
