Clerkenwell councillor Marisha Ray is asking local residents to let her know their opinion about how the council should tackle cars rat running in Herbal Hill.
Marisha says "This narrow road has been used as a shortcut by drivers to cut through from Ray Street to Clerkenwell Road, making it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians to cross. There are several ways that cars can be stopped or slowed down, including closing the road or using traffic calming, but we want to hear from local people which method they prefer, if any."
Cllr Bridget Fox, Executive member for Sustainability, says "The Lib Dem council is committed to making Islington's roads safer, and we're proud of our achievements so far - road accidents in the borough dropped 20% last year. But we only close roads or put in traffic calming where residents tell us they want it - so it's really important that people tell us what they think!"
The council has recently consulted on six options- three options involving closing Herbal Hill (at either end or in the middle), road calming for Herbal Hill, changes to the junction with Ray Street, or to leave it as it is.
There is currently a temporary road block in Herbal Hill demonstrating how blocking the road in the middle would work. Any works that take place will start in October and should be finished by the end of November.
